Advocacy of National Association of Women Business OwnersNAWBO Sees Renewed Hope for Women-Owned Businesses(Washington, DC) - Tuesday marked not only a historic day, but let’s hope, a significant turning-point in our nation’s history. As I offer these thoughts from our nation’s capital, the inauguration of Barack H. Obama as our 44th president has been energetic, emotional and inspirational – providing renewed hope for the economic success and growth of women-owned businesses. While I hope you enjoyed the festivities with family and friends, I can assure you that Washington is alive with energy and hope for our new president, our country and women business owners. And, whether you are here in cold and crowded DC or in the warmth and comfort of your home or office, how can we not feel optimism for the future? There were many memorable and poignant thoughts included in the president’s remarks. Several come to mind as NAWBO enters this challenging year for our organization and our members:
As the country’s leading women’s business organization, we too must choose hope over fear and unity of purpose above all. We must work together to inspire hope where real economic challenges exist. And be unified in our purpose and our voice as we join with President Obama and his new administration to move this country forward. As he closed his remarks, the president noted that:
Clearly, each of us and NAWBO has difficult tasks ahead as we enter uncharted economic waters. Now, more than ever, we must recognize that we have duties not only to ourselves but equally to our local NAWBO chapters and the communities where we do business. As women business owners, we must renew our commitment to educate, communicate and engage ourselves in the policy debates affecting our country and our businesses. Using our newly revamped Web site, NAWBO will be sending out Action Alerts through our Legislative Action Center and ongoing communication to aid and assist you in ensuring that the “NAWBO voice” is unified, strident and effective. As a valued NAWBO member, we invite you to become an active participant as we strive to transform public policy and influence opinion makers. The president addressed the challenges ahead as he concluded his remarks: "Let it be told to the future world...that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive...that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it]." Together, NAWBO will meet the challenges, the common dangers ahead, and all of us will gain great rewards from “giving our all to a difficult task.”
